I Missed My Appointment With God By Brother Nishan Veerakumar

If God ever exist, I wanted to see him (…or her). It had to be with my own eyes, not some myth told by a wise person. I was determined to get my own appointment with God. My search began with religious practices, books, Google, pilgrim visits and even spiritual camps, you can name it. With every fast, every prayer, the expectation was no longer about meditation. Instead, it was levitation, walking on water or healing someone with a touch. Eventually, every self-made effort was with one aim – to get my appointment with God. When you want something so badly, so sincerely, nature conspires to make it happen. That led me to meet Sadguru Babaji. He only had one message and has always been consistent – seek refuge and love with one’s soul. Whilst it was a profound message, I still did not get my appointment with God. The search continued. Fast forward, when you look back at life to date and list the 5, 10 or 20 most important events that have taken place in your life, how many of that happened because of you and ONLY you? When I made my list, I had none. It all happened because of an involvement from my parents, wife, family, Babaji, friends, a stranger sitting beside me in the flight, and the list goes on. The more I reflected, the more I realized each and everything that happened is or was because of a divine intervention. It is in these moments I experienced the divinity which I call God. Whether it was finding a car park space or living in another country, haggling with the vegetable aunty in a Sunday market or facilitating million-dollar deals, comforting wife on domestic disagreements or leading a hard negotiation that will impact lives of people…. there were many moments I felt that powerful yet humbling intervention. I saw a guru in the form of Sadguru Babaji, and in return he saw and introduced the guru within me – Atma. It was an activation of a GPS system navigating me. My search was external trying to secure an appointment with God, but there I was ignoring every appointment that was already given. I looked for the form not realizing that I was ignoring the presence. I missed realizing the laughs and tears with people around me. I missed realizing the goose bum moments that triggers the tears and hair to stand. I missed realizing how grateful I felt. These moments were the many forms of God touching me. Alas! I have missed my appointments. This realization was my moment of enlightenment. Guru Poornima is celebrated as thanksgiving and tribute to the Guru. I offer my sincere gratitude to Sadguru Babaji. However, it is also an important reminder to recognize and remember the Guru in me – My Atma who will eventually help navigate to achieve My Happiness. Wishing all .

Editor’s Desk: In a very interesting way, the author has expressed God resides within and reveals Himself in many ways. How about you? Have you missed your appointment? #MyAtmaMyHappiness.
